Safer Summer Travels with Children #carseatsafety #boosterseatsafety

This summer many parents will be planning road trips towards fun destinations. When you’re kids are in the car, remember to not take a vacation from car seat safety! In my case, I have to think “booster seat safety”.

My boys are 48″ and 49″ tall, weighing in at approximately 50 pounds. Booster Seat Guidelines suggest that my kids should remain in a booster seat until they can fit in a seat belt properly, which is approximately 57″.  For a seat belt to fit properly, the lap belt must lie snugly across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The shoulder belt should lie snugly across the shoulder and chest and not cross the neck or face.

I know plenty of kids that have not reached the appropriate height, yet currently sit without a booster. In fact, a study last fall revealed that 9 out of 10 parents move their children from booster seats to seatbelts too soon, unknowingly putting their children in harm’s way. Reasons include “convenience” or “all their friends stopped using boosters”, maybe the parents even think that booster seats are for “babies”. Chicco, a leader in baby gear, toys, feeding and apparel, just released its newest car seat, the KidFit Booster, which is so comfortable that your children will prefer sitting in the booster.

I recently received the KidFit for review for my 9 year old and I love it. It can be used as a high-back booster or a backless booster. For convenience (even this mom likes convenience), I quickly put it in my car as a backless booster. I just had to attach the cushioned arm rests and we were ready to go. He looked PERFECT in the booster. We’ve tried a few other boosters in the past, but this one allowed him to use the seatbelt perfectly. He looked so comfortable. He could see out the window. It was just PERFECT. He loves his new booster, even if he is 9!

Later I added the back so I could review all aspects of it. As a highback booster, it offers side impact protection. The headrest area has 10 positions, so their head doesn’t hang to the side if they fall asleep. And once again, you have to love the side-impact protection it offers. Sure, it’s easier to handle a backless booster – or not worry about a booster. But the improved safety with this full back booster is ideal in my opinion.

The High Back can be used when your child is 30-100 lbs. For backless, it is ideal for a 40-110 pound child. We loved the contoured seat with double foam padding. It will give your kids a comfortable ride for the upcoming road trip season and any summer camps.

If it gets dirty during the busy summer, the seat pad and arm rest covers can be removed and machine-washable. It also features two soft-sided cup holders that easily fold out of the way when not in use. They are also removable for easy cleaning.

The Chicco KidFit Booster is only $99 and a Target exclusive.
